Raymond's Uncut Diamond
by Assaf Marcus

About the Book:

Raymond's Uncut Diamond takes your child on a journey with a young boy named Raymond, who is given a stone by his Grandpa and sent to the market. While trying to find the right price for his Grandpa's stone, Raymond learns of its true value, as well as his own.

My Review:

I am a huge fan of reading to kids.  I read to my kids until they were about 9 or 10 and over those years discovered that books can be a great way to discuss topics that are hard to explain.  Being able to bring forth examples and stories that reinforce positive attitudes are priceless.
Last year I received the opportunity to check out a new book by Assaf Marcus called Raymond's Uncut Diamond and I am excited to share this book as a wonderful addition to any children's library!  It is a well written, inspiring and engaging book.
Raymond is a young boy who is feeling sad.  He feels out of place and useless at school and needs some advice.  He seeks out his Grandpa only to find him busy, but Grandpa gives Raymond a task that will help Grandpa finish his work sooner so they can talk.  Raymond is to take an uncut diamond to the market and sell it.  Raymond is unable to complete the task and after talking to his Granpa about it, he gets another task to take the diamond to the jewelers to find the real value of it.
I don't want to spoil the end so let me just say that in finding the value of the uncut diamond, Raymond learns that he is much like this stone he has been carrying around and that there is value in potential.
I really love the message this book sends to kids and the illustrations are colorful, detailed and engaging.  A great story for kids of any age!
