Critical Pursuit
by Janice Cantore
"Officer Brinna Caruso has built a reputation at the precinct as the cop to call when a child goes missing. For Brinna, it’s personal because she was once one of them. Brinna and her K-9 search and rescue dog, Hero, will stop at nothing to find a missing child, no matter the stakes.
Detective Jack O’Reilly isn’t ready to return to his homicide duties, after losing his wife to a drunk driver. He’s on the downside of his career, and bent on revenge, when he’s assigned as Brinna’s partner. While on patrol, Jack struggles between his quest for personal justice and his responsibility to those around him, especially his partner.
Skeptical of Jack’s motives, Brinna isn’t sure she can rely on her new partner, whose reckless abandon endangers the safety of those around him. But when a man surfaces with an MO similar to the criminal who abducted Brinna twenty years earlier, Brinna and Jack must cast aside previous judgments and combine efforts to catch the kidnapper, and finally allow Brinna the peace stolen from her as a child."
My Review:
I have always loved crime novels and as a retired police officer, Janice Cantore delivers an exciting and suspenseful story! I enjoyed the storyline and the characters, and I really enjoyed getting to know Brinna and her dog Hero. Brinna's horrific experience 20 years earlier has turned her into an obsessed cop. She is hellbent on saving children, and her dog Hero has a special talent for finding missing kids, so Brinna and Hero have had success. But inside Brinna is a mess, unresolved issues with her parents have left her hurting and to top it off, she is involved in a shooting during patrol which kills the perp and leaves her in the middle of a messy investigation. Assigned to a new partner, Jack, who is suffering his own demons with the death of his wife and child, Brinna and Jack are thrust into a new child abduction case involving twins that Brinna personally knows and a serial killer who is targeting the very same child he violated 20 years ago, Brinna!
I really loved this story and the transformations that happen within Brinna and Jack spiritually. It kept my attention from beginning to end and was a fast read! 2 Thumbs Up!
