#TBCCrafters Craft Hop - Personalize a Wooden Letter with photos

Check it Out!  My mother in law likes handmade gifts and I love making them, so decided I would make her something.  I had this rather plain looking P on my wall that I had picked up at Hobby Lobby during a 1/2 off sale.  I got it for like $2, and I got to thinking about the photos I found.

Although we lost the majority of our photos, I found a plastic container that looked awful on the outside but contained a huge treasure inside, all of my husbands family photos!  I had forgotten that I had compiled them all and put them together with the intentions of making him a family scrapbook album and put them in the container under my desk.  I never got around to it, so all of his pictures are intact.  After allowing them some time to air out, I was able to put them in a new container and bring them in the house.
My husbands father passed away many years ago, before I met my husband but he is often remembered and talked about so I thought about taking those P family moments and putting them on a P.  So I picked out a few that fit the shape and made photocopies of them so that I still had the original and in case of a mistake, I can always just make another copy.  And since he has sisters  that loved moms gift, I can use them again!

So first up I painted my letter black and cut out my photos to fit on the P.  Cutting the pics into rough shapes that fit my P was a challenge but it just took some maneuvering around of the pics until I got what I wanted.  This can be a little tricky but play around with the pictures and the main focus and cut out the parts you don't need to fit the spots you need it for.  It might take a few tries, so using photocopies works great.

Now it's time to break out the Mod-Podge!  I always lay a coat down and then add the picture and another layer on top to smooth it out.  Continue applying the mod- podge and the photos until you have them all on.

Once you have them all on, apply another coat of mod-podge over the whole thing and allow it to dry.  Then apply a few more coats.  Applying multiple coats will seal it all in and make it so you can wipe it down!  You could add embellishments or words or even phrases as well.  You could also frame around the photos with ribbon or decorative paper strips.
