Hallows Haven
by: Melissa Brodsky & Nicole Madison
About the Book:
Captain of the cheerleading team, 16 year old Gwen Valiente has it all--the best of friends, a loving home, and a bright future. Little does she know that the people she loves the most have been keeping secrets--life-altering secrets.
When strange things start to happen to Gwen, she is thrust into a magickal new realm called Hallows Haven. Leaving the ordinary behind, she discovers that she can do things beyond her wildest dreams. As Hallows Haven begins to feel more like home, Gwen wonders how she ever felt satisfied with everyday life in Michigan.
Too late, Gwen realizes that even in this realm full of light and magick, danger lurks. Someone close to her is not what he seems and someone will do anything to draw her out of Hallows Haven and into the darkness. Even worse, some of that darkness may already exist within her, threatening her chance to make Hallows Haven her permanent home.
Have Gwen's loved ones continued to keep dangerous secrets? Can Gwen resist the call of darkness?
My Review:
Let me start by saying that I am not typically a paranormal fan, I haven't really ever gotten into magic and things like that, but my 13 year old daughter is. When I got the opportunity via The Blogger Connection to get an Advanced Reader Copy of Hallows Haven, I initially thought about her doing the review, I figured since she was into this kind of thing I would let her do the review, but while I was waiting for my copy to arrive via email, I checked out some of the reviews on Amazon and have to admit I was super intrigued! So when I finally got my e-copy on my kindle, I decided to give it a read first, and I am so glad I did! This isn't a book just for Young Adults but anyone! Not only do I give this two thumbs up, I can not wait for the next one!
So Gwen is a typical 16 year old, she is a cheerleader, lives in a comfortable home with her grandmother and lives a comfortable life, but things are not so typical inside her or around her. Plagued with nightmares, Gwen is suddenly aware that all is not as it seems. After a turn of events forces Gwen to leave her comfortable life behind to go "home" to Hallows Haven, she is introduced to a world beyond fantasy and oh so amazing! I absolutely love how the author brought this new world to life for the reader, so expressive and descriptive, I could actually visualize it as I read. Exploring this new world with Gwen kept me intrigued and finding out more about her parents and her new found powers. I really don't want to say too much and give away the adventure, but I do have to add that this adventure isn't over, because with the cliffhanger at the end of this book, there is much more to be discovered in Gwen's new life as these new things and people are not as they seem. I will be eagerly awaiting the next installment to this story and now I can pass this one on to my daughter.
