#TBCCrafters Craft Hop - Tie Dyed Tees & Stuff @RitDye

Check it Out!  I have been dying lately!  Not literally, but stuff!  I have dyed my daughters hair and I have been dying with my Rit Dye stash like crazy!!  I received my Founding 500 Tee via The Rit Studio a while back and got a second one the other day!  I was so excited to experiment some more so I whipped up 3 colors and got busy!

For this Tee, I simply laid it out flat and then gathered it starting at the neck and going all the way to the bottom.  I had my daughter help with this and our hands were quite full so I wasn't able to get any pics.  After we had it in a long gathered strip, we folded the ends in and used rubber bands at both ends to hold it all tight together.

I mixed up my dyes according to the package directions in buckets and lined them up for dipping.  I dipped one end up to the band in yellow, then dipped the other end up to the band in orange.  Using a measuring cup, I poured the pink over the center portion staying within the bands.

Here is what it looked like after dying.  I allowed it to set for about an hour like this and then rinsed it and opened it up to dry out.

And here is the final product!  I love the way it turned out!  The orange is amazing and I love the bold yellow strip down the center.
Like I said I received 2 Founding 500 Tee's and I just love the way my first one turned out so I have to share it with you all!  I used a couple of different techniques on it and it was my first time using Rit Dye.

For this tee, I gathered the arms and secured them with rubber bands at the ends and at the shoulders.  Then using gem stones (because I didn't have any marbles) I gathered 5 areas and again used rubber bands to secure them.  For this tee I used green, pink and yellow Rit Dye.  I dyed the gem gathered areas in pink, the arms ends in yellow, and the arm centers in pink.  Once I had all that dyed, I gathered the entire shirt by the dyed parts and dipped the rest of the shirt into my green dye.  I let it sit for a bit, rinsed it and let it dry.  It turned out great!  Not bad for my first experience!  You can check out the full instructions for this tee at the Rit Studio HERE.

Of course I had left over dye and am not one to waste so I kept on experimenting!  I found an old white tee that I didn't wear anymore because it was just looking too raggedy and tried a different technique on it!

For this tee, I started by finding the center and bunching it up, securing it with a rubber band.  I dipped just the centered bunched part into yellow, then folded the shirt back over the center part, bunched it again and then secured it with another rubber band.  I then dipped that section into my orange dye.  I folded the tee over again, gathering and securing with a rubber band and dipped it into pink.  I then dipped the left over fabric of the tee into yellow.  I let it set for a bit, rinsed it and then unfolded it to reveal the beauty above!  I love it!  The orange is so vivid and bright!  My favorite part!  Not so raggedy looking anymore, this tee just got a new life!

Well I wasn't out of dye yet so I gathered up some other items to experiment with!

I have a box of small wooden discs and have an idea for another craft project with them so I decided to dye them instead of paint them.  I also had a very plain lacy pillow cover that is just so blah!  And I decided to try the dip dye method on a old skirt.  The skirt is green so I wasn't sure how it would turn out.

Here are my finished products!  My wooden discs look great and that blah pillow cover is not so blah anymore!  I am not too sure I like the skirt, but it's different.  What do you think?
