Alone Yet Not Alone
by Tracy Leininger Craven
Check it Out! I love finding and sharing books that are educational. Finding a story that is educational and fascinating is a bonus! I was recently introduced to a book that is just that, "Alone Yet Not Alone". This historic book is recommended for ages 8 and up and it combines adventure with great values. It's so rich with historical details, your kids won't even realize they are learning!
"Alone Yet Not Alone" is an inspirational true story about a family caught in the cross fire of the French and Indian War. This is the story of Barbara and Regina Leininger.
The Leininger family lived a simple life in the Blue Mountains of Pennsylvania, deep within America's new frontier and celebrated the blessings of a beautiful home and a bountiful harvest. But one day their lives are changed forever with the beginning of the French and Indian War and the raid known as the Penn's Creek Massacre in 1755. The two young sisters, Barbara and Regina witness horrifying events and are captured and carried away by a band of Allegheny warriors. The story is told from Barbara's point of view and details the trials and tribulations they faced over a period of many years. Grounded in faith and memories of their parents, Barbara and Regina hold firm to their beliefs that they are never alone.
This a very emotional and well written story of the bond that these two sisters have, the hardships they face and their strong convictions and faith in God. Always remembering the words of the bedtime story their mother would sing, the girls remained steadfast even in their darkest hours that they will all be reunited again.
"Alone yet not all alone am I
Though in this solitude so drear
I feel my savior always nigh..."
