#TBCCrafters Craft Hop - Upcycle Charger Plates

Check it Out!  Last week I showed you how to upcycle an old charger plate into a mini beachscape.  You can GO HERE to check that out. I have some of those charger plates left so of course I had to figure out something else to do with them.
My craft space is sorta undefined in my home and it continually evolves.  It is in a room that is quite central in my home and I guess would be considered a den to some people.  This room also contains my office and all of our homeschool supplies.  Defining the different areas of the room seems to be the problem but with time I will work it all out.  For now I just keep moving and rearranging things as I get more storage space and more supplies.  I have one wall in my craft area that has this awkward cut out that goes into the kitchen.  It was there when we moved in, and until I can get the money and time to redo the kitchen, it will be there.  I have to find a way to work around it.  I have never really decorated that wall with anything more than a clock since we painted.  I decided it was time to give my craft space a little spruce up and create myself some more space.  One of the first things I had to do was figure out what to put on that wall.  That is where those charger plates come in.

I decided to use these plates as my base for the letters I needed to spell out the word LOVE.  Since that is a wall that everyone sees everyday when they come down or up from their rooms, I thought that the word love would be appropriate.  I want everyone to always remember how much they are loved!
I started with 4 charger plates and the chipboard letters.  My supplies also included glue dots, scrapbook paper, paint, glitter and mod podge.

I just love the black laquer look of the backs of these plates so I used the back sides as my frames for my letters.  Each plate held a letter.  Since there was writing on the back centers of the plates, I used my scrapbook paper cut to fit, to cover it.  I used 2 different patterns of paper and cut the circles out using a small plate. I used glue dots to adhere the paper circles to the plate.

To prepare my letters I simply painted them using a generous amount of paint.  While the paint was still good and wet I sprinkled my glitter on to cover the letter completely.  I repeated this with all four letters and allowed them to dry completely.

I alternated paper patterns and added my glittered letters to the centers of the paper circles.  I used glue dots to adhere them.  Then I added a coat of mod podge over everything to seal it all in.

I used string and strong glue to create a hook to the backs of the plate, which is really the front lol, and then they were ready to hang!  I love how they filled that wall up.
