Book Review: Heaven is For Real - DVD based Conversation Kit

Heaven is for Real
DVD-Based Conversation Kit
ISBN 9781418550684

About the Book:
"The best-selling book about heaven that has changed the world is now a DVD-based conversation kit for churches and small groups. In addition to learning more about what the Bible teaches about heaven, groups will hear first-hand from the Burpo family about Colton's experience in heaven and the way it has changed their lives. Each video session features Todd, Sonja, and Colton, and is filmed interview-style with Natalie Tysdal, the Denver FOX/CW News reporter whose initial interview with the family has gone viral on the internet.
The Conversation Guide will take group members through key Bible passages about heaven, helping them understand more about who goes to heaven, when they go there, and what heaven is like."
My Review:
Having previously read Heaven is for Real as well as Heaven is for Real for kids, I was excited to get to review the DVD-based conversation kit.  I really wanted to share it with my kids so we used it as a lesson.  Since the DVD is broken into 5 10 to 18 minute video sessions, we completed it in a week.  Each session features Todd, Sonja and Colton as they answer questions and talk about their experiences.  However, Todd is most prominent with Colton answering only a handful of questions really and that left the kids very disappointed.  They wanted to hear from him, in his voice, after seeing him in the books.  He answered some FAQ's and seemed to not be able to remember some things.  The Conversation Guide that comes with the DVD is meant to help group members discover what the Bible teaches about heaven and includes a section on each session along with group discussion questions as well as a scripture.  This is what we got the most use from and held the kids atttention more than the DVD.  There are also points to ponder and personal reflections to help you with the scriptures.  Overall I am not super impressed with the DVD, but we liked the conversation guide and would recommend it for small groups or families.  We give it, 1 thumbs up!
