My Review:

I have read a few diet books in my time and the first thing I will say about this book is it so unlike any other.  This is a plan.  Although I did not do the 28 day plan as instructed in the book, I really liked this book and this plan.  And as soon as I can get to the place where I can actually focus on the 3 phase plan I am going to do this, but in the mean time, I have learned so much from this book.
Haylie Pomroy teaches you not only how your metabolism and body work, but she breaks it down for you so you can understand the process and understand the steps that you need to take to "wake up" your metabolism and start burning the fat instead of storing it!
This book is an education for how the body and metabolism work and it will leave a lasting impression, because it is easy to understand and Haylie hits on a lot of those myths about food and dieting, that help to clear up the facts about how the body and dieting works.
So phase 1 is all about "unwinding" or destressing and calming the Adrenals and lasts for 2 days.  Phase 2 is all about "unlocking" or releasing the stored fat and building muscle on days 3 and 4 and phase 3 is all about "unleashing" or turning that newly released stored fat into energy...unleash the burn for days 5 to 7.  There are detailed food lists, menu plans and recipes to keep you on track as well as a cool app that you gives you customized meal planning, those food lists and diet tools right at your fingertips all the time!

This is a four week plan that includes exercise and healthy portions.  You actually get to eat, quite a lot, you just have to eat the right foods and this book will guide you right to them.

Tuesday's Tip - Keeping deer out of the garden, naturally

Check it Out!  Since I have plenty of room this year I have decided to get the garden started.  A few weeks ago, I got my plot picked out, my soil turned and ready for planting.  I then put in 7 tomato plants, 1 pepper plant and some cucumbers.  Within 1 day of planting, I began to notice the deer tracks, and then I noticed he ate 3 of 7 of my plants!
The pic above is my garden a few days ago and it is kickin' butt!  But I had to come up with a way to get rid of the deer.  We aren't hunters and I don't like poisons because of my furbabies so I set out to find a way to do it naturally.
After several suggestions and trying things like hair and swinging nets, I heard that soap works.  A friend said she just nails a bar of soap on the post next to her garden and the smell keeps the deer away.  And when it rains the smell is released even more.  Well I have soap!  After spending 6 months in a hotel I also have a ton of those small travel hotel soaps, so I figured I would try them first.  I also don't have any trees in my yard, thanks to the previous owner cutting them ALL down, so I decided I would hang my soap and to cover my basis I would hang them in all 4 corners.
So using a nail, I put a hole in my soap and used cable ties to make loops to hang.

Again since I don't have trees, I used these trellises that I found in the shed, and hung a soap from each one.

I water my garden in the evenings if needed and when I do I be sure and hit those bars of soap to keep them smelling strong with the water.  So far so good, no deer have returned since coming and finding the soap bars.  I even broke a few in half and placed them in the dirt on the corner they are known to come from, that way when they put their noses to the ground they got that smell and not my tomatoes!

Make It Monday - T-Shirt Scarves

Check it Out!  I have a super quick and easy craft that may just add a little pizzazz to your wardrobe! lol

These fringed scarves are made from t-shirts using nothing but some scissors and a ruler!  

Starting with your t-shirt laying flat, decide how wide you want it and then cut straight across, keeping in mind you will be working with the bottom section of the shirt.  Want longer fringe, cut a wider strip. Totally up to you and when you see how quick and easy they are, you may end up making some of different lengths.  

So once you have your piece to work with lay it out in front of you and using a long ruler, make a line across the shirt so you can cut all your strips to the same length.  I have a long plastic ruler that I just lay across the shirt for my mark, but you could use a disappearing ink pen as well.  I like using this ruler best though, because I can also use it as a guide for cutting even strips.  

I cut a strip about ever 1/2 inch and as you can see they aren't perfect but that is okay, once you fluff it up, those imperfections are what makes it unique!

Just continue cutting strips until you reach the end.  I used my shirt with the hem up, so that the collar of my scarf would be the finished part.  You could just as easily switch it up and cut the other way.

Once you cut all the strips, just lift it up and fluff it out.  

It's just that easy.  Make the strips long or short depending on the look you want and you could even twist the strands or braid them.  And you can layer them as well.

Check it Out!  As a mom with a firm belief in God, I am always praying for my kids.  To keep them safe, to guide their hearts and oh, so much more.  But I will be honest, I don't always feel my prayers are deep or powerful enough, I am sometimes at a loss for words even with so much to say.  

Prayer Warrior Mom has helped to change that and I think this book would make an awesome baby shower gift.  

In this book you will learn how to pray with Scripture and pray with power!  Learn how to be persistent and most importantly to trust in God.  I really love how the author shows us through scripture, how we can become our children's own warrior.  Pray so that God hears your heart.  Pray with boldness, with purpose and authority.  

There a number of other insights in this book as well, including not holding your children too tightly.  Allow them to fail and allow them to fall sometimes.  It's how we learn.  With the trials and challenges that kids face these days, I know I have been praying double time!  It's exciting that you can learn how to pray for your children and in return give yourself a sense of relief and peace, knowing you can give it all to Him.

Book Review: The House on Plunkett Street by Lorena Bathey

Check it Out!  I love a fun read!  You know what I mean, one where you find yourself smiling a lot and even chuckling out loud.  Well you will get just that with Lorena Bathey's House on Plunkett Street.  See this house isn't like any ordinary house, this house has ghosts! Now these aren't your normally read about creepy, evil ghosts but three lively, lovely, spirited ghosts.  Isolda, Polly and Hazel.  All three sent to teach one dull and uninteresting young lady how to live.

Phoebe Bertram is that dull and uninteresting young lady that comes to live in one of the apartments in the house on Plunkett Street.  From her dud of a boyfriend to her bland clothing, Phoebe is in need of a makeover and these ghosts are just the answer.  Each ghost plays a part in the change of Phoebe and it's quite a fun little ride.  The characters are so lively and well thought out and there are many moral lessons in this story.  From self-esteem issues to bullying there are some serious messages involved as well.  I thoroughly enjoyed the depth of the characters and how complex yet simple they were.   See each ghost comes from a different era, so we are treated to a little view of the past as well.  

Heartwarming and inspiring, with just the right amount of romance, this is a book that will have you laughing and crying but for all the right reasons!

I want to thank my mom for teaching me all the things I needed to know to be a good mom, like laundry!  Ya never realize how important a skill it is, until you have to do it every day, all day!
So speaking of laundry, I got the opportunity via Purex Insiders to try a new concentrated detergent product out, and you know me, I am always doing laundry so I can always use some laundry detergent.  

What excited me about trying out MAS Color Laundry Detergent is that it is designed to help protect and renew colors.  I have teens who love colored and dark clothes so I really need help to prevent clothes from fading so much.  Some of these clothes seem to just fade more than others so having a color detergent is helpful.  

MAS is a widely popular in Mexico and is now available in the US at Walmart.  MAS is available in two different types, MAS Color and MAS Oscura.  I found it at Walmart, but it wasn't located in with all the other liquid laundry detergent products, but further past the powders.  

I used MAS on about 3 loads of colors as well as darks and it worked really well.  No fading at all and it left my clothes smelling good.  I would use it again, and especially if I could snag a great deal on it.

Broken Build by Rachelle Ayala Book Review & Giveaway

Check it Out! I have said it before, I love a good thriller and I recently found one via Tomoson that I really enjoyed.  Broken Build by Rachelle Ayala is a fast paced Silicon Valley romantic suspense and technothriller.
Jen Jones is an engineer with a new body, a new degree and new job.  She also has a dark secret.
Dave Jones is CEO and founder of the exciting new start up company that Jen has a job at and unbeknownst to him, a past connection to Jen.  Jen is talented and Dave needs her to get the business going, but a hit and run accident triggers a whirlwind of events that not only endangers the builds but also their lives.  I will admit to having a little trouble with the techie lingo and it took pretty much the whole book before I figured out just what a build is, although I am not really sure I got it all figured out! lol  But the plot and twists and turns kept me reading and I even grew to like Dave, a little, as he and Jen are pulled into a wild ride to save his daughter.  There is betrayal, lust and danger involved and it is quite a roller coaster ride!  I really enjoyed the depth of the characters and the mystery of the crimes involved.  There is some cussing, a little sexual tension and whole lot of computer talk.  There are also a few bible verses that send a definite message of faith in God.  The story is good and I wasn't able to figure it out until the end, which is 2 thumbs up for me!

Product Review: Pennington SmartFeed Sprayer Sytem #Gotitfree

I was so excited to get into the Pennington Smart Feed Sprayer System BzzCampaign because I had just started my little garden.  I do mean little, but ya gotta start somewhere, right?  I have 7 tomato plants, some cucumbers, and peppers.  I also have some flowers and 2 trees that I have just planted, so finding a fertilizer that is easy and effective is super important to me.

My Smart Feed Sprayer was already loaded with 2 All Purpose Tablets. 

I have used so many different types of fertilizers in the past and it was always such a job!  Either I had to mix the solution in water and then add to the plants or I had to wrestle those stupid bottles you attach to the end of your hose, I really hate those things because I have never had one that worked properly or effectively.  And I hate handling granules.  In other words, I don't like messy!

I really love this system and here is why...

As I said my garden is small, so I was able to remove one tablet from the easy to use chamber and it was the absolute perfect amount for my garden.  The sprayer handle itself is again super easy to use, just unscrew the cap, open the handle and add your tablets.  

Here is a look at the Smart Feed Sprayer in action.    

What you can't see, is that the tablet is spinning inside the chamber, which in turn allows it to dissolve quicker and more evenly.  There is even an adjustable tip to allow for different spray settings, along with a trigger button so you can stop and start the spray.  

Each pre-measured Smart Feed tablet fertilizes up to 300 square feet and retail for around $9.99.  The Smart Feed Sprayer System itself sells for about $12.99, which I think is a very reasonable asking price.  

I love that I don't have to measure, I don't have to mix and I don't have to get messy because one of my favorite things about this product is the self clean up. 

Because the Smart Feed Sprayer has a clear chamber, you can see when your tablet is fully dissolved and there is no clean up.  I just open it up and set it to air out.

An added benefit of the Smart Feeder is that it only takes about 10 minutes to deliver 100% of it's  nutrients which not only saves have the time, but half the water!  A typical water-soluble garden feeder uses nearly 100 gallons of water per application! Smart! 

As far at the effectiveness, well that will have to be seen over time and I will update to let you all know just how that is going over the rest of the spring and summer.
